Achievement Roll Call!

June 22, 2009

I was on “vacation” from work last week and I had planned a great many things.

But the weather here in the Northeastern United States had different plans, and the week was rainy and damp and more “March” than “June.” Which means…well…I was inside more than I was outside. And being inside with a bunch of time on my hands means I was playing more WoW than usual.

And I kinda sorta “overachieved.”

OK fine...half of them are from Naxx-10

OK fine...half of them are from Naxx-10

Highlights:

  • World’s Worst Mage hit Naxx-10 with a vengeance! I liveblogged night one of it. The loots came fast and furious (a benefit of being a late bloomer) and her DPS went from about 1300 at the beginning of night one to 1900 on Kel’Thuzad. Some of it was gear, some of it was getting comfortable with a rotation and positioning. Leota & Spike spent a lot of time with the Undercity training dummies trying out gear and weapons. It paid off.
  • Akromah is finally exalted with the Kirin Tor and can cut the coveted Runed Scarlet Ruby! The only Wrath faction she has left to grind is the Ebon Blade and thank GOODNESS they have dailies!
  • Akro’s also hot on the trail of the Crusader title so she can pick up all the new great items that the Argent Tournament will be offering in patch 3.2. She’s still only revered with Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff & the Darkspear Trolls. Timear foresees lots of Runecloth quest turn-ins in Akromah’s future!

    The Rogue:
You can do the starter quests for each zone…that’ll give you rep.
    Me:
  • Akromah got the Utgarde Pinnacle “Skadi all the time” achievement AFTER Leota did.
  • Want an un-achievement? Akromah fail-tanked Heroic Old Kingdom. It was bad. Deaths all around. I was almost in tears by the time I gave up and asked Mage Jedi Master to bring his tank in so I could switch back to heals. That 1,000 gold dual-spec price was the WORST waste of 1,000 gold ever. More on that another day.

I really, honestly didn’t spend as much time in the game this week as it looks.

I do, however, have about week’s worth of everyone else’s blog entries to catch up on.

Speaking of, my guildmate has started up his own WoW blog! Keep your eyes on Which Main to Play? – Another WoW Blog. The first post features his redheaded Blood Elf paladin, so I’m biased. 🙂

Your turn! Big or small, Blizz-sanctioned or not, share your accomplishments below! (Or, y’know…brag on your own blog & leave a link here. You get the picture.) C’mon, Jong…certainly you did SOMETHING last week!

    Wow Kim, awesome work! 🙂

Did a whole lot of stuff in-game.

DK to 78, DK2 to 63, Rogue to 56, my brother’s 71 DK escorted my Warlock to 51 and my Warrior to 50 via a single dead-side Stratholme run, which scored the warrior Deathcharger’s Reins. Frustrating, considering my “main” paladin and “second main” mage both have been looking for it for various reasons and instead my “don’t really want to play” warrior gets it. Ugh. (and also got the warrior’s blacksmithing to 350)
Main paladin got Exalted with Ebon Blade and found the Weatherbeaten Fishing Hat in a fishing reward bag.
Main mage started! and! finished! the Midsummer achievements and the 3000 quest achievement.

Saturday we went to dinner for Father’s Day, went to Texas Roadhouse.
Sunday we went to a breakfast buffet; the first place we had reservations for, but the person who had taken the reservations didn’t tell us the correct hours of the restaurant, so we ended up going down the street to another buffet place which was overbooked with reservations, but we are regulars there so they “let” us have a table… with the caveat that it would be needed in an hour. SO we ate REALLY fast and were out within 40 minutes. For dinner we had Dad’s choice of spaghetti and meatballs, and then we watched Transformers as a family to prep for Wednesday! 😀

I got my TinyToon Adventure ™ pally up to 64 this weekend, and… I gotta say… Retribution is crazy fun.

Granted, looking at the upcoming Ret changes in 3.2, I’ll have to relearn some of the mechanics of the thing… but still… I’m having a blast with this guy.

I think the thing that draws me so much — aside from the visceral fun of hitting things with a great big axe and topping the DPS meter — is the same feeling I get DPSing with my Shaman. The feeling of doing one job well (DPS) while at the same time making the entire group far more effective. This, I think, is the core of the hybrid class: the utility. With my shaman, I can effectively pull my weight with the DPS, while also dropping totems, and throwing a clutch heal. With the ret pally, I bring the tasty, tasty pally buffs and I’m doing passive heals on all the nearby melee while providing everyone with Replenishment.

Oh, how the ladies love that Replenishment…

Not for nuthin… but you, too, can whack stuff with a great big sword for the low, low price of less than 50 gold! See your local Paladin trainer for details!

I totally agree with Cosmo there. I got my Pally to 72 this weekend and run Nexus with 2 other Pallies, one which was lvl 80, and DK frost tank. The 80 may not have been doing much work and just mostly watching but I was only 200 or so behind him in my DPS and that was awesome. I was doing 1200dps at lvl 71, I couldn’t believe it. But that is pretty much it. Oh yea the guild with the help of my main DK got past General Verax and got some practice in on the Yogg fight which is crazy!

I got Champion of the Frozen Wastes!!!

All it took was Brodix talking us through Occulus, and convincing us it really is doable.

…Yes, all I needed for CotFW was Occulus. For weeks. Because that instance sucks really bad.

There was likely some other stuff achieved, but that’s the main thing that sticks in my memory. =)
